Bhairahawa, also known as Siddharthanagar, is a significant economic and industrial center that earns its revenue primarily through trade between India and Nepal.

The city is a major trading center for goods to and from the several small and large scale industries that comprise the Bhairahawa Special Economic Zone, situated just 5 km south of the Indian border.

It is also known as the Gateway to Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddharth (Gautam Buddha). It is one of the holiest places for Buddhists the world over and a Unesco World Heritage site.

You land at the Gautam Buddha Airport, an airport serving Siddharthanagar, a municipality in Rupandehi District in Province No. 5 in Nepal. The airport sits at an elevation of 358 feet above mean sea level. This airport is being upgraded to an international airport.

Located in the southwest plains of Nepal, you can drive 25km west from Bhairahawa to arrive at Lumbini. In Lumbini lies the archaeological conservation area with historic evidences that date as far back as the 3rd century BC, to the time of the Buddha. Notable among these is the sandstone Ashoka pillar with its Pali inscription in the Brahmi script, which testifies to Lumbini being the birthplace of the Lord Buddha.

Come to Siddharthanagar, visit Lumbini. Take inspiration from the spirit of the Buddha.
